Hisham Akira Bharoocha is mixed race (Japanese / Indian Myanmar) multidisciplinary creative based in Brooklyn. His work spans various mediums including collages, large-scale murals, paintings, drawings, audio/visual installations, and performances.
Raised in southern California and Tokyo, Japan, Bharoocha brings his multicultural background into his highly vibrant work, focusing on his fascination with hyper specific associations humans have to colors, shapes, imagery that triggers memories, and how those impressions affect our outlook on the world at large or expressly an art experience.
Hisham has had solo exhibitions around the world, including in Japan, New York, and The Netherlands. He has also concepted and designed workshops and events for Uniqlo, Instagram, and Sephora. Bharoocha is known for organizing large-scale musical performances with up to 100 musicians performing at once, often focused around drumming, but including other instrumentation as well.
His performances have graced prestigious venues worldwide such as Rockefeller Center Plaza, MoMA, MoMA PS1, MoCA, The Sydney Opera House (Australia) and Barbican (London) to name a few. Hisham has collaborated with brands including Apple, Puma, Saint Heron, Sephora, Ogilvy, Adidas, Nylon Magazine, Sony, Latest Revival, Imprint Projects, Zeit Magazin, Nowness, Creatures of the Wind, Spotify, Mortlach, Vice, and Facebook.
